Add an extraordinary touch of elegance and sweetness to your vegetable patch with Ice Cherry Tomato. This unique variety produces heavy clusters of translucent, pale ivory-to-creamy yellow cherry tomatoes that look like glowing porcelain pearls in the garden.
Ice Cherry tomatoes boast an extraordinarily rich and complex flavour profile. Known for having one of the highest sugar contents of any cherry tomato, they deliver an intensely sweet, low-acid, and fruity bite with a silky texture. The fruits resist cracking well and hang in long, decorative trusses that ripen continuously throughout the heat of summer until the first frost. They are an absolute showstopper served fresh in summer salads, arranged on charcuterie boards, or popped straight off the vine as a sweet garden snack.
Unmatched Sweetness: An exceptionally high sugar content yields a sweet, candy-like flavour with very low acidity.
Gourmet Visual Appeal: Produces striking, pale ivory-cream translucent fruits that create a stunning contrast alongside red and yellow varieties.
Prolific & Long-Harvesting: Heavy-yielding vines produce continuous, cascading trusses from early summer through to autumn.
Crack-Resistant & Hardy: Resilient skins reduce fruit splitting, keeping your harvest pristine even after summer rain.
Kid-Friendly Garden Snack: Sweet, low-acid, and eye-catching—a proven favourite for getting children excited about garden harvesting.
Scientific Name: Solanum lycopersicum 'Ice Cherry'
Growth Habit: Indeterminate (Climbing/Cordon). Requires a strong stake, tall cage, or trellis framework to support its vigorous growth.
Sowing Season:
Temperate/Cool (e.g., Tasmania, Victoria): Early Spring (indoors with bottom heat) through to Late Spring. Plant out into the garden once all danger of frost has passed.
Subtropical: Autumn through to Early Spring.
Tropical: Late Autumn to Mid-Winter.
Position: Full sun. Thrives in rich, deeply composted, well-draining soil with an ideal pH of 6.0–6.8.
Sowing Depth: 6mm deep.
Spacing: 50cm apart between plants; 90cm apart between rows.
Germination: 7–14 days at a warm soil temperature of 21°C–27°C.
Harvest: 65–75 days from transplanting.
Gardener’s Tip: To keep vines manageable and maximize fruit production, regularly pinch out the side shoots (suckers) growing in the leaf axils. Deep, consistent watering at the base of the plant—rather than overhead on the leaves—helps prevent foliage diseases like blight and keeps the sweet fruits growing steadily.
