This heirloom classic is cherished by home gardeners for its perfectly uniform, globe-shaped roots and its intense, crimson-to-purple interior that remains vibrant even after cooking.
Whether you are a seasoned gardener or a beginner, Detroit Red beetroots are remarkably forgiving and reliable. Its fine-grained, tender flesh is exceptionally sweet and free from the woody "rings" often found in other varieties. It is the ultimate dual-purpose crop: harvest the young, tender leaves for a nutrient-rich addition to salads, and allow the roots to mature for roasting, pickling, or grating raw into a fresh garden slaw.

Sowing Season: All year round in most parts of Australia (avoiding extreme mid-summer heat in the north or deep mid-winter frost in the south).

Position: Full sun to light part-shade; prefers loose, well-drained soil.

Sowing Depth: 1–2cm deep.

Spacing: 7–10cm apart in rows 30cm apart.

Germination: 10–14 days. (Each "seed" is actually a fruit containing 2–3 seeds, so thinning is usually required).

Harvest: 55–70 days.

Gardener’s Tip: To speed up germination, soak the seeds in warm water for a few hours before sowing. Keep soil consistently moist to ensure the roots remain tender and sweet.

The return shipping costs will be the responsibility of you, the customer. For domestic orders (AUS & USA) a prepaid shipping label can be provided, with the associated costs being deducted from the refunded amount. International (Asia) returns will need to be arranged by the customer, and will require a tracking number.
Any refund or exchange will only be issued once the original item has been shipped back to us.

In the unlikely event you receive a defective or damaged item, we offer you the choice of a full refund or a replacement. We will cover all return shipping costs.
